SIL (Supported Independent Living) is funding for the support services you receive in your home—like help with daily tasks, personal care, and skill development. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is funding for the actual housing itself—purpose-built or modified homes for people with extreme functional impairment. You can have SIL funding without SDA, but if you qualify for SDA, you'll usually also need SIL for your support needs.
SDA eligibility is determined by the NDIS based on your functional capacity and support needs. Generally, you may be eligible if you have an extreme functional impairment or very high support needs that require specialist housing features. Only about 6% of NDIS participants qualify for SDA. Contact us or your Support Coordinator—we can help you understand your options and navigate the application process.
Yes, we believe compatibility is essential for harmonious living. We conduct a careful matching process to ensure housemates are compatible in terms of support needs, lifestyle preferences, and personalities. You'll have the opportunity to meet potential housemates before making a decision, and we always respect your right to choose.
Your SIL and SDA supports are funded through your NDIS plan. However, you'll contribute to everyday living costs like rent, food, utilities, and household supplies—just like anyone living independently. This is called a "reasonable rent contribution" and is typically around 25% of your Disability Support Pension plus Commonwealth Rent Assistance. We'll explain all costs clearly before you move in.
If you're experiencing homelessness or an emergency situation, contact us immediately. We offer Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) and emergency short-term options to provide safe housing while we work on a longer-term solution. We'll also work with your Support Coordinator and the NDIS to ensure you have the funding and support you need.
