What is the CIS Scheme?

The Catastrophic Injuries Support (CIS) scheme is a no-fault scheme administered by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA). It provides necessary and reasonable treatment, care, and support - in many cases for a lifetime.

Anyone who experiences catastrophic injuries as a result of a motor vehicle accident in WA (on or after 1 July 2016) or a workplace accident (on or after 1 July 2024) may be eligible for support, regardless of who was at fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the CIS scheme and our support services.

What makes CIS different from NDIS?

CIS is a Western Australian no-fault scheme specifically for catastrophic injuries from motor vehicle or workplace accidents. Unlike NDIS, it's not means-tested and covers injuries regardless of fault. CIS is administered by the Insurance Commission of WA (ICWA), while NDIS is a federal scheme. Some people may be eligible for both, depending on their circumstances.

How do I know if I'm eligible for CIS support?

Eligibility is determined by ICWA based on your injury type and circumstances. Generally, you need to have sustained a catastrophic injury (spinal cord, traumatic brain, multiple amputations, severe burns, or permanent blindness) from a motor vehicle accident (after 1 July 2016) or workplace accident (after 1 July 2024) in WA. Contact ICWA directly or speak with our team for guidance.

What services can GNA provide under CIS?

As a registered CIS provider, we offer personal care, daily living support, mobility assistance, complex health support, community access, transport to appointments, overnight care, and more. Services are tailored to your individual support plan developed with ICWA. We work collaboratively with your care coordinator and healthcare team.

Can I choose my own support workers?

Yes, we believe in continuity of care and work to match you with support workers who suit your personality, needs, and schedule. We prioritize consistency so you can build trust with familiar faces. If a worker isn't the right fit, we'll work with you to find someone who is.

How do I get started with GNA Services for CIS support?

Contact us by phone (1300 133 633) or email to discuss your needs. If you're already approved for CIS, we can liaise with ICWA and your support coordinator. If you're not yet enrolled, we can help guide you through the process or refer you to the right contacts. Our team is happy to answer any questions.
